Congress Passes Legislation to Disclose Epstein Documents

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday gave swift approval to a bill that will force the release of official records concerning the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a overwhelming vote in the lower house and a change of position by the president and his GOP allies. The White House relented after months of trying to forestall the cross-party initiative involving a controversy that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Both Chambers

Senators proceeded by general agreement, which requires approval from each senator but avoids a recorded vote, accelerating the process. Earlier that day, the House voted decisively for the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

The public have endured sufficient delay. Those affected have suffered long enough,” the top Senate Democrat stated in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before requesting the Senate to adopt it by consent. “Reveal the truth. Allow openness to prevail.”

Presidential Signature

The measure next goes to Trump for his signature. He signaled on Monday that he would approve the bill.

Although Trump has for months rejected the controversy over the authorities' approach of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he voiced approval for the House bill over the weekend, and announced he would approve it if it reaches his desk.

Support and Opposition

Opposition lawmakers, along with victims and their advocates who were watching from a viewing area, cheered after the bill was approved. Lone dissent came from a Louisiana Republican, who stated he feared the measure would disclose specific data of witnesses, persons of interest and others involved in the investigation.
